Music Ministry
Welcome to the music ministry of Summerfield United Methodist Church. We hope that this brochure will serve as inspiration for you to use your gifts and talents to uplift the Lord and our congregation.
The purpose of the music ministry of this church is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, encourage believers in their walk with Christ, lead the congregation in worship and provide an avenue through which individuals may share their gift and be an integral part of worship. The music ministry spreads the Word of God through musical experiences.
Only one who has personally experienced Christ’s redemptive work can have a harmonious life that produces a true song upon the lips, hence, such a person should desire to proclaim that message as effectively as possible to others so that they too may desire the source of His inner joy.
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the Lord, he is God; It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise;
Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the Lord is good; his mercy endureth to all generations.

Music Opportunities at SUMC
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir of Summerfield not only provides music for our worship services each and every Sunday morning, but special services such as Maundy Thursday, Hanging of the Green, Easter Sunday, Palm Sunday and other special services throughout the year. The chancel Choir leads our Sunday morning worship service through music that uplifts, inspires and is most of all, acceptable unto God. We believe in a blended worship service through use of the hymns of the faith as well as music that is new and more “contemporary” in style. Our Chancel Choir is open to anyone and everyone ages 13 and up.
The Proclamation Ringers
Through the generous gift of one of our church members several years ago, we were able to purchase handbells and thus the Proclamation Ringers began in 2006. This group is primarily made up of adults, but open to anyone. If you are interested in handbells, please see the music director for position availability. The ability to read music is not required, but a good sense of rhythm is for this kind of musical group.
Youth Praise Band
We are blessed to have a contemporary praise band that provides music for worship once every month or two. This fairly new group is comprised of youth singers and musicians who have a heart for bringing new and fresh music to our worship. Adults and youth are invited to participate and we can always use new members. Rehearsals are Wednesdays evenings at 5:30 pm.
Children's Choir
Our children at Summerfield are offered the opportunity to share their enjoyment of singing through the children’s choir. The children participate in the worship of the church not only on Sunday morning, but in special services for Christmas and Easter. The procession of the palms on Palm Sunday, helping decorate our church during the Hanging of the Green service and a special Christmas program or musical during Advent are just a few of the special ways in which the Children’s choir enriches our worship. Cameron Page directs the children's choir.
